Digital Toy Train
The prototype of a digital toy train allows children aged five and six to construct and play children’s melodies in an intuitive and playful way.
The interaction with the prototype does not feel computer-like. All of the digital functionalities are embodied in physical objects, eliminating the need for children to navigate menu structures or to press buttons. Instead, children can build a melody by grasping, placing, and shifting physical building blocks or tokens. These tokens are designed to fit in the child’s hands and allow for a wider range of physical actions, making the experience more engaging and tactile compared to interacting with graphical content displayed on a screen.
Additionally, the design of the prototype was carefully crafted to make the prototype look less ‘digital’ and more like a traditional toy train, further enhancing the immersive experience for the child.
